Standards and legislation update

The latest standards and legislative developments could potentially impact those working with lifting equipment. LEEA has posted its January 2025 Standards and Legislation Report on its website at leeaint.com/dashboard. This is a service for LEEA members, who will need to log in to access the full report. 

They will find that this month’s report provides updates on the progress of the following standards and legislative matters:

  • EN 13852-1 Cranes – Offshore cranes, Part 1 General
  • prEN 14238 Manually controlled load manipulating devices
  • BS ISO 4301-5 Cranes – Classification – Part 5 Bridge and gantry cranes
  • EN 17206 Entertainment technology. Machinery for stages and other production areas. Safety requirements and inspections
  • EN 14492-1 Power driven winches and hoists – part 1 winches
  • EN 14492-2 Power driven winches and hoists – part 2 hoists
  • Plans for revisions of the EN 1492 series
  • Developments with respect to the preliminary work on synthetic chain standards.

The report also advises on the current ballot ISO/DIS 15513 Cranes — Competency requirements for crane operators (drivers), slingers, signallers and accessors.’
